These terms are an agreement between you and Mantel (legal entity name to be confirmed) (“Mantel”, “we”, “us”). They cover buying a Mantel frame and using the Mantel service, which lets the AI apps you connect draw on your frame. By using Mantel, you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
Preview
Mantel is in preview. Features may change, and the service may be interrupted, reset or changed while we finish it. During the preview, accounts and screens may be deleted, and we'll try to tell you first. Please don't rely on Mantel for anything critical, such as medical reminders or safety alerts.
Your account
- You need to be at least 13, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live.
- Keep your sign-in details safe. You're responsible for what happens under your account, including what the AI apps you connect do on it.
- Give us a real email address so we can reach you.
The frame
When you buy a Mantel frame, you own the hardware. You pay once for it; the price and what's included are shown when you order. Shipping, returns and any warranty that comes with your purchase will be described at checkout and in the box. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law where you live.
The frame runs Mantel's software and connects to the Mantel service to receive screens. If you claim a frame, you're responsible for it being yours to claim. You can release a frame from your account at any time.
Preorders
When you preorder a Mantel frame, you pay a refundable deposit per frame (the amount shown when you order), and our payment provider, Stripe, saves your card. The deposit counts toward the preorder price shown when you ordered; we charge the rest once your frame is ready to ship, and we email you first. If the ship date changes, we'll email you the new date and you can cancel for a full refund. You can cancel any time before it ships by emailing hello@mantel.ink, and we refund your deposit in full. After it ships, returns and refunds follow the policy described at checkout and in the box.
The service
We provide the service that takes screens from the AI apps you connect, prepares them for e-ink and delivers them to your frames. We may update or improve it, and we may change or stop features. If we ever shut the service down, we'll give you reasonable notice. The last screen on your frame stays visible without power.
Your AI and its content
What appears on your frame is made by the AI app you choose to connect, such as ChatGPT or Claude, on your instructions and under that company's terms. Mantel doesn't write, check or approve that content, and AI can be wrong. You're responsible for what you ask your AI to put on your frame. You keep whatever rights you have in your content; you give us permission to store, process and display it only to run the service for you.
Acceptable use
Don't use Mantel to:
- display or distribute anything illegal, or content that sexually exploits children;
- harass, threaten or harm anyone, or show content designed to do that;
- infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy;
- interfere with the service, get around its limits or security, or access accounts or frames that aren't yours;
- resell or provide the service to others without our permission.
If you break these rules, we may suspend or close your account. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix things.
Ending
You can stop using Mantel and ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing support@mantel.ink. We may close accounts that break these terms or that have been inactive for a long time, after giving notice.
Warranties
Apart from any warranty that comes with your frame purchase and rights you have by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We work hard to keep it running and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free, or that AI-made content will be correct.
Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, Mantel isn't liable for indirect or consequential losses (such as lost profits or data), and our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or 50 US dollars. These limits don't apply where the law doesn't allow them, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Changes
We may update these terms as Mantel grows. If a change matters, we'll tell you in advance by email or in the service. If you keep using Mantel after a change takes effect, the new terms apply.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the place where Mantel (legal entity name to be confirmed) is established, unless the law where you live gives you the right to rely on your local law and courts. Before going to court, please email us; most problems can be solved quickly.
